Learning
A NEW LANGUAGE

You want to learn a new language?

Here we have collected a few ways in which you can achieve this:

The language courses offered at the individual faculties

All the faculties offer language courses at affordable prices. The registration deadline is always at the beginning of the semester. From English, Spanish, German, Korean, and Japanese to sign language. You will find everything your heart desires.
If your favorite language is not being taught yet, contact the people in charge – they might be able to offer other courses such as Italian, Arabic, or Russian next semester.
Tip: Take a look at your emails and check the deadlines in September/October and February/March. You will receive all the details about registration!

Using the internet

Is the language you want to learn not available in your area? Then why not use the big WWW to further your education? On the “tandem” platform, you will find like-minded people with whom you can exchange ideas.

Free apps like Duolingo

Each lesson includes speaking, listening, translation, and selection exercises. For German-speaking users, the app offers English, Spanish, French, and Italian. If you use it in English, you have access to 30 languages, including Zulu, Klingon, Navajo, Latin, Hebrew, Esperanto, Welsch, and Portuguese! Take a look and see which languages are available to you!

LeWis learning centre

The LeWis Learning Centre in the Linz City Library offers a self-study area, books, and films for free use. There is also an international learning club, IT and study rooms, language course counseling, and a language tandem. Please note that not all services are free of charge – it is better to enquire in advance!

Check the opening hours and all the services available in their website.

Active learning

Speaking is the best way to learn and practice a new language. If you become a “buddy” at the UAS and help international (exchange) students with their first steps at the UAS, you will also make new friends at the same time! Get in touch with the IO (ideally in December/January or before the summer, but possible at any time) and enquire whether buddies are still being sought!
